Crews from Tower Ladder 5505 and Rescue 5503 successfully rescued a 58 year-old Jackson resident from the roof of his two-story home located on Atlanta Drive on Sunday, June 3, 2012. Station 55 was dispatched for the call at 1116 hours. Assistant Chief Mike Waters 5510 arrived on the scene minutes later, and established Incident Command. Quality EMS EMT’s had already determined that the resident was in extreme lower back pain, with stable vital signs, however was unable to move. The roof sector team from Rescue 5503 led by Lt. Matt Baader 5540 went to the roof on an existing ground ladder, and packaged the patient on the roof, while the Tower Ladder truck team of Past Chief Chip Smith, FF Kevin McGinn, Captain Jack Siedler and FF George Bergner placed the bucket of the Ladder into position at 1139 hours. After being placed on a backboard and with full stabilization, the patient was placed into the Stokes basket and affixed to the truck’s basket bracket. At 1154 hours, the Tower bucket was lowered to the ground and the patient was transferred in the Stokes from the Tower Ladder to the ambulance gurney for his trip to Centra State Hospital. The operation was concluded at 1200 hours.
