Power line fire

On Sunday November 23, 2003 at around 20:30, Station 55 was alerted to respond to a reported transformer explosion in the vicinity of the power lines near the Italian American Club on Countyline Road.  Under the direction of Chief Robert Baylis and Asst. Chief James Howles the company responded with Brush 5519 and Rescue 5503.  Lt Fatovic was in command of 5519 and positioned the truck safely awaiting JCPL’s response.  Rescue 5503 was relocated to the intersection of New Prospect and Bennett’s Mills Road to provide lighting of the intersection.  Under the command of Safety Officer Friedland, the crew assisted JPD in controlling the intersection setting up flares and also providing the light tower.  Ladder 5505 was then called to assist JPD at the intersection of Brewers Bridge and Countyline road to do the same.  All units returned to quarters at 22:10 hrs.  Below is the Asbury Park Press release of the incident.
JACKSON — A downed tree disrupted power for about 3,200 Jersey Central Power & Light customers last night.

Company Spokeswoman Roberta Sheridan said that about 8:30 p.m., a tree hit six bands of wire near Marshall Street and County Line Road. Customers had power restored about 80 minutes later, she said.

Working car fire

On November 9, 2003 Station 55 was alerted to respond to a reported car fire in front of 5 Hawaii Dr.  Upon arrival of Chief Robert Baylis, he advised all responding units that they had a working fire.  Engine 5521 was first due under the command of Captain Chip Smith.  The crew stretched one 1 3/4 attack line and quickly knocked down the fire.  Ladder 5505 supplied a supply line to 5521 while Rescue 5503 blocked off the road.  A fantastic job was performed by all.
