Fire District #3 Budget Information

Jackson Township Fire District 3 has announced details concerning their 2006 Budget – scheduled for voter approval on Saturday, February 18, 2006.

District 3 provides fire protection and daytime first responder EMS services for the northeast section of the township – operating from the volunteer-owned station located on North New Prospect Road at Larsen Road, and from a District-owned station on Kierych Memorial Drive near Johnson Park.  The District is served by career and volunteer firefighters Monday to Friday during the day, and exclusively by volunteer firefighters at night and on weekends.

During 2005, over 1,100 emergency calls required fire department responses within the District, an increase of 11% over 2005.

District officials point to a rigorous process they utilized to hold the line on 2006 expenses – that will result in a tax rate increase of only 1.8% — from 0.166 per hundred dollars of appraised value to 0.169 in 2006.  This translates into a minimal change – for a home assessed at $250,000, the tax increase will result in an additional $7.50 per year or $0.63 a month.

The operating appropriations outlined in the 2006 Budget plan are 4.8% lower than 2005, with capital appropriations almost 26% lower than 2005.  The amount to be raised by taxation has increased only 2.5% from $1.845M to $1.891M.

District officials urge all voters to approve this Budget plan to ensure the level of service that is necessary regarding the protection of life and property.

The election will be held at 113 N. New Prospect Road between the hours of 2:00PM and 9:00pm
